Job Description


The AS400 Systems Administrator performs a wide variety of systems administration duties, and is primarily responsible for the maintenance and administration of AS/400 (iSeries servers, multiple partitions), including message handling, command line utilities, work management, job and print control, device management, system configuration and security setups, backup and restore, client access application, external process and/or file transfer integration, and PTFs management.


• Assists in the daily administration of IBM AS/400 computer hardware and software
• Assists in installation, configuration and maintenance of AS/400 computer hardware, software, networked devices and AS/400 client-access software, journaling, mirroring software, etc.
• Assists fellow System Administrators in daily Windows-based server administration as it pertains to AS400 integration.
• Develops, documents and maintains procedures for system utilities, such as backups, restores, performance tuning, and configurations and perform daily and quarterly backups of production systems and other backups as required.
• Assists in the planning, development and integration of enterprise-wide networks, communication, and technology systems.
• For major system changes, incumbent defines need, weighs options, and proposes solutions. Outlined system changes can be made based on own knowledge and experience. It will occasionally be necessary to take quick actions, such as implementing HA during a major system in an emergency that has simultaneous major impact on the functioning of Resort Operations.
• Loads and tests operating system and application software releases, and fixes in both test, stage, and productions environments and loads application and software patches; runs performance and file tuning utilities
• Documents and implements applications specific security groups and classes. Cross trains other team members in AS/400 administrative skills.
• Shares responsibility for management of the AS/400 and Windows servers. May serve on additional technology teams as required.
• Provides timely and accurate weekly status report updates with reliable information;
• Ensures that timesheets are submitted weekly before stated IT deadlines;
• Ensures that software licenses, certifications, and subscriptions are properly renewed and do not prematurely expire
• Minimizes system downtime and prevent unplanned or unscheduled outages;
• Follows PCI-DSS, SOX, IT Security guidelines to ensure all systems are kept in compliance;
• Ensure AMDB/CMDB is maintained with accurate and updated systems inventory;
• Ensures that all hardware and software is properly patched and updated per manufacturer guidelines;
• Ensures that all systems currently in use are backed-up and can be restored within SLO\SLA requirements;
• Ensures that all production hardware devices have valid maintenance and support contracts in place;
• Ensures that policies, procedures, diagrams, and other technical documentation is kept current and accessible;
• Ensures that no changes are made to any system without an approved change request work order;
• Ensures that all IT work orders are closed in a timely manner or updated regularly to explain why they are not closed.

Job Requirements

Bachelor's Degree preferred. Four years of relevant technical experience may be substituted for the Bachelor's Degree.

Minimum of 8 years of work experience in an Enterprise class environment administering the IBM iSeries AS400 with multiple LPARS/partitions including adds, moves, changes, code migrations, maintaining sub-systems, scheduled jobs, performing upgrades, applying patches, and ensuring overall system health.

Preferred Experience includes:
Bsafe (Enforcive), DBU (ProData), Crypto Complete (Linoma), Lmi (Aldon), Harmonizer (Aldon), MIMIX (Vision Solutions), Replicate1 or Double Take (Vision Solutions), Pathfinder (Hawkeye), GL/AP (Lawson), LSAMS (ISGN), Timekeeper (Kronos)
Working knowledge of PCI, SOX, and Audit compliance. Strong technical knowledge in SQL. Working knowledge of ITIL service management and support practices or equivalent industry standards. Knowledge of applications (Lawson, SR&I, KRONOS, LSAMS) an added plus
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Project management skills. Strong analytical, innovative thinking, problem solving, issue resolution and documentation skills. Ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task. Strong communication and customer service skills. Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
