Job Description


The Compliance Specialist for Consumer Matters participates as a team member within the Legal Department's consumer, regulatory and litigation subgroup and works in conjunction with and assists attorneys and paralegals in investigating, responding to, defending against and resolving all areas of consumer inquiries and complaints. Conducts basic fact-finding research using Company internal databases and systems to obtain customer purchase and account histories. Will also be drafting written responses to third parties inquiring about consumer matters or complaints, using Legal Department pre-prepared response language, as well as, letters related to the business, sales and marketing practices of the Company. Interacts and speaks with staff level consumer regulators. Assists and reports to consumer matters and litigation paralegal(s) and litigation attorney on large, complex regulatory investigations, litigation and related consumer matters. The Specialist will work within a team and manage high volume assignments, while maintaining a strong level of organization and timeliness with workload.


• Follows established Legal Department procedures for managing high volume matters and assisting others with large, complex inquiries and investigations.
• Responsible for heavy and time-sensitive workflow involving the copying, organizing and file maintenance of Legal Department responses to consumer inquiries by customers, attorneys and regulators, and processes the execution of settlement documents.
• Tracks, obtains and organizes customer information to assure consistent performance by the Company.
• Assists with collection and retention of customer information related to consumer matters and maintains an existing file system for easy retrieval.
• Maintains a good working knowledge of the Company's internal customer mortgage and maintenance fee account systems, customer vacation usage history, and other customer identifying and tracking features.
• Drafts written responses to consumers, attorneys and regulators using pre-established response language, for final review by paralegals and attorneys.
• Drafts consumer settlement agreements using pre-drafted and established settlement agreements, for final review by attorneys.
• Makes copies of consumer sales documents and consumer complaint and inquiry letters, and conducts some maintenance of Legal Department files for use in responding to consumer inquiries.
• Works closely with, and interacts with, the Owner Services Department, Customer Care Management Department, Mortgage Department and other internal Departments regarding purchase, usage and related account history of consumers, specifically reservation usage, loan repayment, and ownership features.
• Works with other internal Departments related to legal matters arising in connection with inquiries and complaints raised by customers concerning account histories, customer account features, and product and services inquiries.
• Assists attorneys and paralegals with the negotiation of consumer settlements and proposed solutions to consumer situations.
• Identifies trends affecting the Company overall in the area of consumer matters in response to consumer inquiries raised by the Company's customers.

Job Requirements

• Associates Degree required, preferably in paralegal studies or similar field of study; Bachelor's Degree preferred but not required.
• 2 or more years of experience within a law firm or corporate legal department or customer service department with a concentration on consumer affairs, consumer matters and/or regulatory matters
• Familiar with Federal, State, and local laws and regulations involving consumer protection matters. Familiar with fair trade laws and regulations applicable to the sale and marketing of timeshares. Knowledge in the preparation, assembly and processing of legal documentation, Quality service fundamentals, computer proficiency in MS Office Suite. Ability to learn, understand and apply Corporate policies and procedures.
• Detail-oriented with analytical and problem solving skills, good ability to think strategically and analyze information timely and accurately, good interpersonal communication skills to deal effectively with all levels of the organization.
