Job Description

Purpose:

The Tax Accountant is the department’s lead point of contact for all sales and use tax, accommodations tax, and tangible personal property tax matters. In addition, the Tax Accountant will assist in the preparation of income and franchise tax related matters.

Duties for the tax accountant include, but are not limited to, assisting in the preparation process of indirect tax filings and payments, preparation of income and franchise tax returns, coordination and correspondence with the various taxing jurisdictions, research regarding various tax positions and tax matters, lead contact for indirect tax audits and tax liaison for legal, treasury and the accounting departments.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with KPMG and Tax Manager to provide necessary data and review elements of the preparation and processing of sales & use tax returns, accommodations tax returns, and tangible personal property tax returns.
  • Assist in the preparation of income and franchise tax returns.
  • Submit necessary check requests to accounts payable and / or AnyBill.
  • Perform assigned research using on-line tax research library and state websites.
  • Provide tax guidance to internal and external customers regarding applicability of Federal, state and local tax rules and work with them to resolve various tax issues and concerns.
  • Manage ongoing external indirect tax audits, including the preparation of responses to data requests, gathering work papers and other supporting documents.
  • Keep up to date on new tax legislation to determine impact on the Company.
  • Register and open new accounts for sales/use, tangible personal property and income tax purposes.
  • Tax liaison with treasury-accounting for the filing of unclaimed property.
  • Tax liaison with legal department for the preparation of business licenses.
  • Respond and resolve tax assessments and/or notices including written and verbal communication with the state and local tax authorities.
  • Maintain schedule and prepare real estate tax payments.
  • Manage the tax calendar.
  • Coordinate with the external consultants assigned to the Company’s co-sourcing arrangements for indirect tax filings – including any necessary information, data and correspondence.
  • Coordinate general supplies needed for the tax department.
  • Coordinate the maintenance of records for the tax department including copying, scanning and filing tax returns, forms and documents.
  • Review and disseminate mail received daily.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
  • 1 year with similar work experience.
  • Computer literate in Microsoft office applications with working knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook. OneSource OTP and OIT experience a plus.
  • Requires usage of email and communication skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks. Must be detail oriented and have strong organizational skills.
