Job Description


The Senior Tax Accountant will be responsible for reviewing and/or preparing tax returns, supporting schedules, and related reports. Areas covered may include income and franchise, sales and use tax, tangible personal property tax, accommodations tax, and business licenses.  The Senior Tax Accountant must ensure that all tax returns and compliance are filed in a timely and effective manner. The Senior Tax Accountant’s core responsibility is the preparation or review of initial schedules, workpapers, returns, and payments related to the income and franchise tax area and the overall provision process.  These items will be further reviewed by the Senior Tax Manager.  The Senior Tax Accountant must be able to resolve both routine and non-routine tax issues, including responding to the accounting department's and management’s tax questions and researching various tax issues. When necessary, the Senior Tax Accountant will assist in collecting data for tax audits and respond to tax notices. Special projects outside of the areas listed below may be assigned.


• Responsible for the initial preparation and / or review of 5 Federal and 135 state income and franchise tax returns.

• Responsible for the preparation and submission of extension requests for 5 Federal and 135 state income and franchise tax returns.

• Responsible for state apportionment calculations, NOL schedules, and other annual input workpapers for 10 legal entities with activity in various jurisdictions.

• Responsible for the initial preparation of work papers and schedules related to the quarterly and annual provision process (FAS 109/ASC 740).

• Assists Corporate Senior Tax Manager during audits from external jurisdictions.

• Prepares quarterly estimated tax payments for all Federal and state / local filing requirements.

• Responsible for monthly review of tax depreciation schedules maintained by accounting.

• Resolves routine and non-routine tax issues (sales/use, tangible property, real property, income, franchise, and accommodations).

• Assists with preparation and/or review of over 400 monthly obligations related indirect tax returns (sales & use, property, accommodations tax), the processing of these returns and associated payments.

• Responds to management's tax questions and researches various tax issues.

• Responsible for the monthly preparation of the installment sales summary.

• Responsible for the preparation of the quarterly 453 interest calculation.

• Participates in special projects as assigned.


• Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Masters preferred.

• A minimum of 3 years of tax experience in private industry and/or public accounting.

• A CPA license is preferred, but not required. 

• Must stay abreast of current developments through professional literature and outside seminars. 

• Knowledge of accounting for income taxes (SFAS 109/ASC 740) and RIA Checkpoint, Onesource Income Tax, Onesource Tax Provision, Onesource Tax Calendar, Alteryx and Fixed Asset Manager software is a major plus.

• Accounting principles and procedures, financial statement preparation/analysis, accounting fundamentals, time management techniques, quality services fundamentals.

• MS Office Outlook, Word and Excel, internet explorer, company’s intranet system and corporate policies and procedures.

• Must be a self-starter, be detail oriented, possess clear oral and written communication skills, and have strong organizational skills.
